The top priority since the beginning of this General Assembly was to help create a climate where business could flourish and jobs could be created. Both sides of the aisle worked together with the understanding that government cannot create private sector jobs, but that it should refrain from hindering it.

So far the results have been encouraging. Since the adoption of JobsOhio, more than 111,000 jobs have been created and the state’s unemployment rate has dropped from 9.0 percent to 7.2 percent, a full percentage point lower than the national average. Because of smart, responsible policies passed by the legislature, Ohio now ranks fourth nationwide in job creation over the past 12 months, despite a national economy that continues to lag.

We still have a long way to go, and job creation continues to be the defining issue of this general assembly. Therefore, I would like to take an opportunity to direct you to an online resource that should be helpful to anyone looking to hire or be hired.

OhioMeansJobs.com is a free website that gives employers and jobseekers a chance to post job openings and resumes to a database, which helps businesses grow and people looking for a job to gain employment. It is always good news when a business wants to hire, but it does little good if people are not aware of the job posting. This website expands the list of potential applicants so business owners can search through a long list of resumes before settling on the best candidate.

If you are looking for work—or are a business owner looking to hire—I urge you to check out this website (also available as an app on Apple or Android devices). I believe there are great days ahead for Ohio’s economy and jobs market, and I think this website will be a major factor in our state’s continuing growth.
