State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Independence) recently welcomed children from Brecksville, Independence, Broadview Heights, and Walton Hills to the Statehouse to participate in her “Legislator for a Day” program.

The program encourages children to explore their local libraries and discover the excitement of reading. To be eligible, each child from grades first through sixth stopped by a participating library branch, picked up a bookmark that served as an entry form, and tracked the amount of time spent reading and number of completed books. Winners were invited down to Columbus and given a VIP tour of the Statehouse, a chance to participate in a mock voting session, and lunch with the legislator.

“It was my pleasure to be able to invite these students down to have a chance to see how their state government works,” Rep Anielski said. “Hopefully these students have a better understanding of how a bill becomes a law.”
