Local students participated in State Representative Mike Henne’s “Legislator For a Day” program at the Statehouse in Columbus this week. The 4th grade students were selected based on essays that they had written about famous people from Montgomery County.
The winners were Madelaine Gregory, from Helke Elementary School in Vandalia, and Michela Harrison, from Monticello Elementary School in Huber Heights. Both of them wrote about the importance of the Wright Brothers.
The winners and their families spent the day learning about the legislative process and touring the Capitol, including being introduced by Representative Henne during an actual legislative session.
“It was wonderful to have Madelaine and Michela come and learn about Ohio’s government while at the Statehouse,” Representative Henne said. “It’s my hope that more students from the 36th House District will have opportunities like this to meet with me and develop an understanding of what a state representative does.”
