State Representative Ron Amstutz (R-Wooster) was recently appointed to the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission by Ohio House Speaker William G. Batchelder (R-Medina).

The bipartisan commission was created by an Act of the Legislature and is charged with examining the state constitution and making recommendations to the Ohio Legislature.

“I am honored to serve with members on both sides of the aisle as well as a diverse group of Ohioans as we tackle a top-down review of Ohio’s constitution,” said Rep. Amstutz.

The commission is set to meet on September 13, 2012 to appoint the remaining 20 public members of the commission and move forward with its work.

All proposed constitutional changes must be approved by two-thirds of the commission members in order to be presented to the General Assembly, which would then have to pass them by three-fifths majority to place them on the ballot for Ohio voters to approve. The commission will present its first report to the General Assembly this fall.
