The Mount Vernon YMCA Rockets junior cheerleading squad were recognized yesterday on the floor of the Ohio House by State Representative Margaret Ann Ruhl (R-Mount Vernon) with a resolution honoring the team as the All-Star Cheerleading Champion at the 2012 Arnold Sports Exhibition.

The Rockets include young boys and girls from all across Knox County. Entering their fourth year of competition, the Rockets are already three-time national title winners. The Rockets earned their first national title at the 2010 Arnold Sports Exhibition, in just their first year of existence. Then, in 2011, the Rockets won first place at Cheer Power Nationals in Columbus.

“It’s my pleasure to honor such a dedicated group of young people,” Ruhl said. “The many hours they spend training have brought them to the apex of their sport.”

The Rockets enjoy competing at the Arnold Sports Exhibition, AmeriCheer, and Jamfest every year.

Members include Megan Wise, William Fields, Logan Higgins, Jordan Lint, Tina Ihinger, Tia Rhinebolt, Abby Johnson, Taylor Williamson, Bethany Snyder, Julia Williamson, Megan Porter, Aly Miller, Janet Henson, Joy Goodman, Makenzy Groom, Amaya Khalil, Maria Zarley, Julia Staten, Ashley Berg, and Kierston Stone. The Rockets are lead by coaches Michele Snyder, Jamie Burris, Chelsea Carpenter, and Joy Niles.
