In response to Governor John Kasich’s executive order to enforce regulations on deep-injection wells that are used to dispose of wastewater that results from oil and gas drilling—as well as his executive order to ban drilling in Lake Erie—State Representative Casey Kozlowski released the following statement:

“As Ohio remains poised on the brink of an economic boom from our oil and natural gas, it is of the utmost importance that we ensure the sanctity of our natural resources as well as the safety of our communities. Governor Kasich’s order to give the Ohio Department of Natural Resources interim authority to enforce new regulations pertaining to fracking will protect our citizens as well as the economic potential we have within our borders.

“I also commend the governor for banning drilling within Ohio’s most precious resource—Lake Erie. The 99th House District depends heavily on the lake for tourist revenue and recreation, and the overall health of our shores is vital to the health of our community overall.

“The governor’s actions to safeguard our families and the environment are an important step toward responsible, domestic energy exploration that will benefit all Ohioans and make our economy more competitive.”
