State Representative Kristina Daley Roegner (R-Hudson) has announced that Governor John Kasich signed into law House Bill 437, which increases the number of miles a school district board may authorize its motor vehicles for out-of-state travel.

Previously, school buses were only permitted to be used for a total of 240 miles roundtrip, a limit that was instituted more than 30 years ago. According to House Bill 437, school buses would be permitted to travel out-of-state a distance of 1,000 miles roundtrip, an increase that would substantially increase the number of important historical and educational sites and institutions that may be accessed by students via school buses.

“I am happy to have sponsored this bill that will help save school districts money and expand the enrichment opportunities for our Ohio students,” said Rep. Roegner.

House Bill 437 passed unanimously in both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate.
