Approval of Keystone XL
Pipeline Would Mean Thousands of Ohio Jobs
House Majority Policy Chairman Mike Dovilla (R-Berea) and House Majority Whip John Adams (R-Sidney) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Resolution 305. The measure urges the administration of President Barack Obama to allow for increased offshore oil and natural gas production, as well as complete construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
At a time when Ohioans are paying near record prices for gasoline and diesel, President Obama’s decision to deny the Keystone XL pipeline is preventing the creation of much needed Ohio manufacturing and energy-sector jobs. The resolution calls for the president in a timely manner to approve the full pipeline’s construction, allow energy production off Alaska’s northern coast, and grant permits for energy exploration in the Gulf of Mexico.
“By refusing to grant these permits, President Obama is saying ‘no’ to jobs and economic growth,” Representative Adams said. “Estimated investment for these projects is impressive, and the forecasted economic impact is very positive. I’m pleased that the House realizes the importance of energy development in our nation.”
“At a time when Ohioans are struggling to make ends meet due to Washington’s inaction, we have the opportunity to generate greater stability for families’ budgets,” said Representative Dovilla. “The prompt approval of access to new North American energy resources has great potential for more jobs, lower gas prices, and greater energy independence.”
Permitting energy development is expected to boost domestic production, bring stability to energy prices, and offer new employment opportunities to tens of thousands of American workers—with more than 20,000 jobs projected from Keystone XL alone. The jobs will boost industries including geophysical surveying, engineering, construction, and manufacturing.
