Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) is pleased to announce that Gary Scherer (R-Circleville) today was sworn in as state representative of the 85th Ohio House District, filling the seat that was recently vacated by former Representative Bob Peterson (R-Sabina), who was appointed to the Ohio Senate.

“Representative Scherer is a great addition to our caucus, a man who brings many years of private sector experience and leadership to this body,” Speaker Batchelder said. “I know this experience will help guide him as he serves his constituents in the 85th District.”

“It is a great honor to become a member of the Ohio House of Representatives,” Rep. Scherer said. “The responsibility of representing the people of the district is one that I will take very seriously, and I look forward to working with legislators and constituents to secure a strong, prosperous future for our state.”

Rep. Scherer owns 70 Jackson Hewitt franchises in Ohio and has been a past member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. Additionally, Scherer served as president of four state chapters of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives and has been the president of the Circleville Oil Company since 2006.

He is a 1976 graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in accounting. He and his wife of 35 years, Debbie, have three children and six grandchildren.
