Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) has announced that Judge Philip H. Rose has been sworn in as state representative of the 87th House District, which includes all of Vinton, Jackson and Gallia counties as well as portions of Lawrence and Ross counties.

“I’m honored and humbled to be able to serve the 87th House District during this interim period,” said Representative Rose. “While serving in the Ohio House, I pledge to put the people of our communities back home first and ensure that I am a faithful voice of our district.”

“We are very fortunate to have someone like Judge Rose joining our caucus, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve in this fine institution with him,” said Speaker Batchelder.

Having previously served as chairman of the Ohio Judicial Conference from 2000-2002, Rep. Rose currently works as an attorney at Oths, Heiser & Miller, LLC in Wellston and has maintained an extensive legal background. Among other positions, he previously served as the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas judge for the Probate and Juvenile division, acting county court judge for Vinton County, law director for the villages of McArthur, Hamden, and Zaleski, judge for various Common Pleas Courts for the State of Ohio, faculty member for the Ohio Judicial College, and chairman of the Family Court Task Force for the Ohio Supreme Court. He was admitted to practice law in all courts of Ohio and is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Vinton County Bar Association, and Ohio Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (of which he is the past president).

In addition, Rep. Rose served in the United States Army and was a special agent for U.S. military intelligence. He also spent 13 months in Korea as a liaison for Korean troops. He is a member of American Legion Post 303 and is chairman of the Children’s and Youth Committee. He also remains active in his community, serving as president for the board of commissioners for the Vinton County Department of Veterans Affairs and as a judge for the Vinton County Mock Trial Program.

Born in Athens, Rep. Rose graduated from Ohio University and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He and his wife Renee have two children, Dr. Alyssa Rose-McIntyre and Taylor Quinn Rose.
