State Representative Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) recently took a tour of Hudson’s Historic District with Tom Vince, the archivist and historian of the Western Reserve Academy, and Burt Logan, the director of the Ohio Historical Society.

The accompanying photo was taken in the Loomis Observatory—which was opened in September 1838—on the grounds of the Western Reserve Academy. It shows Tom Vince explaining the sidereal clock with three faces used in the charting of astronomical observations and a transit circle telescope, which was used to determine standard time for the Akron-Cleveland area prior to the adoption of time zones.
