Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) has announced that retired U.S. Navy Commander Louis F. Terhar has been sworn in as state representative of the 30th Ohio House District during today’s House session.

“Throughout his life, Representative Terhar has demonstrated tremendous leadership not only for our nation but also within his community,” Speaker Batchelder said. “I am very pleased that he has joined the Ohio House as the newest member of the Republican Caucus, and I am confident in his dedication and ability to represent the 30th House District faithfully.”

A 1972 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Representative Terhar earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a Master of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University, and a master of government degree from Harvard University.

He is a retired commander of the U.S. Navy and is an executive board member with the Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Executive Advisors of the Williams College of Business at Xavier University and serves as an adjunct professor of business at the university, where he was named Professor of the Year by the MBA graduate students in 2008. He has also served as the CEO of several private-sector companies.

Representative Terhar resides in Cincinnati with his wife Debra. They have four children and three grandchildren.
