Valley Christian Academy 2nd grader Jacob Sands of Chagrin Falls participated in a mock legislative session in Columbus on Monday, July 11th. Sands was selected as one of the winners in State Representative Marlene Anielski’s (R-Walton Hills) spring reading program this past May, which encouraged students to visit their local libraries and explore the excitement of reading.

Sands was accompanied to Columbus by his father, who had the opportunity to observe Jacob’s day as a mock legislator. The group spent the afternoon learning about the legislative process, touring the Capitol and casting a vote on the floor of the House Chamber. Sands also took the opportunity to question the representative about her duties in Columbus during their private luncheon with other winners from the program.

Representative Anielski plans to partner with local libraries again this fall for a “Back to School” reading program in hopes to emphasize the importance of reading and reward more students with the opportunity to spend a day in Columbus as a mock legislator.
